Welcome to the Training & Capacity Building page of Louisiana’s STD/HIV Program.
Introduction to CT Training:
HIV Prevention Counseling and Rapid Testing is based on models developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for administering rapid tests and risk reduction counseling to clients. These skills empower clients to assess their readiness for results and their own risk behaviors, and to develop a realistic and incremental plan for behavior change.
- Intended audience: staff and volunteers of community-based organizations who currently implement or plan to implement rapid HIV testing at their facility
- Length: 2 and a half days
- Steps toward certification as an HIV Prevention Counselor: Following the training you must sign up to take a written test on the training’s content. Once the written test is passed you must be observed conducting a counseling session and administering an HIV rapid test in order to complete your certification. Contact the OPH-SHP Regional Coordinator for your area to schedule an observation once you have passed the test.
NOTE: If you fail either the written test or the counselor observation twice, you must repeat the certification process starting with this training.
