Even if you do not have insurance, or are underinsured, there are options to get the medical care and medications you need to stay healthy. You can also get help with other social support needs, such as housing assistance, mental health care, dental care, substance abuse, and other services.

Ryan White
The Ryan White Program provides HIV medical care and other support services to people living with HIV who have no insurance or are underinsured. Support services include case management, dental care, direct emergency financial assistance, housing assistance, medication assistance, counseling, substance abuse treatment and transportation assistance.
AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP)
The AIDS Drug Assistance Program or ADAP is part of the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program. It helps covers the cost of HIV-related prescription medications for low- to moderate- income people who have limited or no prescription drug coverage.
Louisiana Health Access Program (LA HAP) is the name of the AIDS Drug Assistance Program for the state. Assistance is provided through two LA HAP components known as Louisiana Drug Assistance Program (L-DAP) and Health Insurance Program (HIP). A single application can be used to apply for these services.
Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA)
The Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) Program is the only Federal program dedicated to the housing needs of people living with HIV. Under the HOPWA Program, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) makes grants to local communities, states, and nonprofit organizations for projects that benefit low-income persons living with HIV and their families.
Medicaid
Medicaid provides medical benefits to low-income individuals and families. Although the federal government establishes the general rules for Medicaid, specific requirements are established by each state. In Louisiana, over a million residents receive health care coverage through Medicaid, most of whom are children under 19. The Louisiana Medicaid Program is administered by the Louisiana Department of Health.
Health Insurance Marketplace
The Affordable Care Act, or ACA, allows people who do not have coverage through an employer or other source, to buy their own health insurance in the marketplace. Financial assistance may be available depending on your income.
Fill out a Marketplace application and you’ll find out if you qualify for lower monthly premiums or savings on out-of-pocket costs based on your income. You can shop for and enroll in affordable medical insurance online, by phone, or with in-person help from a trained assister or an agent or broker.
