STIs are very common, and many people who have them don’t show any symptoms. Syphilis, gonorrhea and chlamydia are caused by bacteria, and all have easy, safe treatments available.
Just Check is a Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) awareness campaign that emphasizes the importance of education, screening, and treatment for syphilis, gonorrhea and chlamydia in Louisiana. The Louisiana Department of Health launched this campaign in response to alarming STI rates across Louisiana. Help us reach the goal of eliminating syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia statewide. Cases of syphilis, gonorrhea and chlamydia have reached an all-time high in the U.S. Louisiana consistently ranks among the top states in the country for Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs). Currently, Louisiana ranks 2nd for gonorrhea and chlamydia and 7th for congenital syphilis (passed from mother to baby). These STIs are easily curable, but if left untreated, can lead to serious health issues. These statistics emphasize the importance of raising awareness around STI education, testing, and treatment across the state of Louisiana.
