JUST CHECK FOR STIs TODAY

Find a testing location for a simple screening that can help
protect you and your loved ones.

What Are STIs?

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs), or sexually transmitted infections (STDs), are infections passed from one person to another through sexual contact, including vaginal, oral, or anal sex. They can also be transmitted from birthing parent to child during pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding.

STIs are very common, and many people who have them don’t show any symptoms. Syphilis, gonorrhea and chlamydia are caused by bacteria, and all have easy, safe treatments available.

WHAT IS JUST CHECK?

Louisiana faces a challenge: high rates of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) across the state. Why? Many people don’t realize they have an STI, feel uncomfortable discussing it, or lack knowledge about prevention and treatment.

The “Just Check” campaign by the Louisiana Department of Health aims to change that.

HOW?

  • Making it personal: We show how STIs can impact partners, family, and your own health.
  • Normalizing conversations: Talking about STIs and getting screened should be routine, just like any other checkup.
  • Reducing stigma: Open communication is key to reducing shame and fear.

OUR GOAL?

Eliminate syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia in Louisiana. It sounds ambitious, but the first step is simple: Get tested!

Visit your doctor or a provider listed in our directory. Just check — it’s the only way to know.

HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED?

Share your testing experience. If you took the step to prevent more cases of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in your area by getting tested, share your success story. You just might inspire others to take that important step, as well. Post your story on Facebook or Instagram and tag @LAHealthHub #justcheck. You may also contact us and we may schedule an interview with you to share your story. The information and tools on this website can help you make a difference!
